Scientific Experience

The following are some of my experiences in the scientific field. Most of my experience is in lectures and labs, however I hope to expand this area more as I work through the MMB program and move through my career.

Research and Development Intern at Nanophase Technologies Corp.

I worked alongside the VP of R&D Dr. Harry Sarkas at Nanophase Technologies testing Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide sunscreen dispersion against UV light, blue light, and more.  I was fortunate enough to get to make some master batches for the formulation team for later use in makeup products for companies we work with. I also was able to participate in research for Dr. Harry Sarkas on the effects of Zinc Oxide on coral reefs.

Biotechnology 571

BIT 571 is a 8 week lab/lecture course centered around the use of RNA Interference in Model Organisms such as Tobacco plants, planarian worms and Chinese Hamster Ovarian cells.

Biotechnology 595

BIT 571 is a 8 week lab/lecture course on comparative plant transcriptomics, that teaches students about next-generation sequencing technologies and how to analyze the data that is produced. Students learn simple Unix coding to compare sequences of known genetic code to wild types to identify SNPs and other variations.

Biomanufacturing Training Education Center

BEC 532 is a 8 week downstream biologicals process science lab/lecture course where we examined the principles of protein recovery, purification and formulation.

Biotechnology 510

BIT 510 is a 10 week lab/lecture course where I learned to express the CaMPARI gene in both E.coli and Chinese Hamster Ovarian cells

Microbial Metabolic Regulation

This lecture is a PhD level course in which known cellular pathways are discussed in depth to understand the regulation of these pathways.
