MBA courses

A large part of the MMB program is learning the briskness aspects of the biotechnology industry. The program requires graduate student to take MBA courses in order to broaden our understanding on certain segments of business. Below are the MBA courses I have taken to gain more knowledge in the business field.   

Team meeting

MBA 585: Current Topics in BioSciences Management 

This course delivers a comprehensive exploration of the myriad factors influencing the Bioscience industry. Encompassing a diverse spectrum, Bioscience spans medical technologies, cell therapies, drug development, agriculture, nutrition, industrial products, and diagnostics. Through a series of immersive sessions, the course navigates various facets of this dynamic field by convening meetings with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) across different industry segments. This firsthand interaction enables students to grasp the intricate forces shaping each sector within the Bioscience domain. Additionally, students actively engage with this knowledge through collaborative team projects and presentations, solidifying their understanding of the intricacies inherent in the industry. 

Final Group Project 

At the beginning of the semester, we were split into teams and given a chance to choose a topic from a provided list that we wanted to research over the course of the semester. Our team selected the topic New Trends in Nutraceuticals as our topic. We were required to turn in a final paper and a final recorded presentation on the research conducted over the semester.

MBA 570: Opportunity Evaluation and Value Creation 

This course empowers student cohorts to cultivate a novel revenue stream for a company, fostering a nuanced comprehension of the innovative process from an industry-centric standpoint. Collaborating closely with the company, students delve into the multifaceted considerations inherent in integrating a product or service within a corporate framework. Concurrently, the course imparts skills in orchestrating innovative initiatives, thereby catalyzing entrepreneurial endeavors within the corporate sphere. In this interactive learning environment, students assume a leadership role, navigating the innovative journey by employing structured worksheets to guide decision-making at various junctures.

MBA 586: Legal, Regulatory and Ethical Issues in Life Science Industries 

This course focuses on practical aspects to equip students with the skills needed to excel as competent business administrators within the life sciences sector. It delves into in-depth examinations of Phase I-IV clinical trials, steps involved in 510(k) and PMA, and various functions of the FDA. Additionally, the curriculum explores topics such as pharmaceutical sales, managerial challenges, market identification, and the intricacies of the intellectual property (IP) and patent processes. The course also addresses topics like off-label usage and societal considerations, including ethics and corporate social responsibility.

Literature Review and Presentation

Throughout the course, students were tasks with identifying a topic that fit within the realm of the class. After choosing a topic, a literature review was conducted and a final presentation was recorded giving an overview of the information discussed in the literature review
